How do I know which therapist is right for me?

Finding the right therapist is an important part of the counseling process. If you're not sure who would be the best fit, we're happy to help. Contact our office by phone, email, or through our Contact Us form, and we'll help you find the therapist that best meets your needs.

What if my therapist isn't the right fit?

Finding the right therapist is an important part of the counseling process. If, for any reason, you feel another therapist on our team would be a better fit, we're happy to help you make that transition.

Our goal is to connect you with the therapist who best meets your needs so you can feel comfortable, supported, and confident in your care.

What if I don't know exactly what kind of counseling I need?

That's completely okay.

Many clients know how they're feeling but aren't sure what type of counseling would be most helpful. Whether you're experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, trauma, or something else entirely, we're happy to help you determine where to start and connect you with the therapist who best fits your needs.

Is it normal to feel nervous about starting counseling?

Absolutely. It's completely normal to feel nervous about your first counseling appointment.

Many clients aren’t sure what to expect or worry about saying the “right” thing.

What happens during my first appointment?

Your first appointment is an opportunity to get to know your therapist and talk about what brings you to counseling. You'll discuss your concerns, ask any questions you have, and begin developing a plan that fits your goals and needs.

There's no pressure to have everything figured out before you come in. Your therapist will guide the conversation and help you feel comfortable throughout the process.

How often will I meet with my therapist?

The frequency of counseling depends on your goals and your therapist's recommendations.

Many clients begin by meeting weekly or every other week, then adjust the frequency as progress is made.

How long are counseling sessions?

Most counseling appointments last approximately 50–55 minutes, although session length may vary depending on your treatment needs and the type of appointment.

Will I have to take medication?

No. Counseling does not require medication.

Some people benefit from therapy alone, while others choose to combine therapy with medication prescribed by their primary care physician or psychiatrist. Because our therapists are not medical doctors, they cannot prescribe medication, but they're happy to work alongside your healthcare providers when medication is part of your treatment. Together, you'll determine the approach that best fits your needs and goals.

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes. We offer secure telehealth appointments for clients located throughout Texas. To participate in a telehealth session, you must be physically located in the state where your therapist is licensed at the time of your appointment.

Learn more about telehealth services on our Telehealth Counseling page.

Do you accept insurance?

Several of our clinicians are in-network with insurance plans, while others are self-pay only. Insurance coverage also depends on your specific plan and the type of service you're receiving.

Couples counseling and family counseling are offered as self-pay services because they focus on the relationship or family rather than an individual's mental health diagnosis.

If you're unsure whether a particular therapist accepts your insurance, we're happy to help you find a provider who meets your needs and works with your insurance plan whenever possible.

How can I get the most out of counseling?

Counseling works best when you participate openly and consistently. Being honest with your therapist, practicing new skills between sessions, and attending appointments regularly can all help you make meaningful progress toward your goals. Remember, you don't have to do everything perfectly. Counseling is a process, and your therapist will support you every step of the way.

Is everything I share confidential?

Your privacy is important to us. Information shared during counseling is confidential except in situations where disclosure is required or permitted by law, such as concerns about safety or other legal exceptions.

Your therapist will review confidentiality and answer any questions you have during your first appointment.
